What are Guests Eating at the B & B?

When guests arrive at Jeremiah Inn, one of their first questions is, “What time do you serve breakfast?”.  Bed and Breakfast guests know that one element making the B & B experience special, is the hot, cooked breakfast they will enjoy after awaking from their restful sleep.  The plate shown below was the entree following the fresh brewed coffee,  varietal juices, and yogurt/granola parfait they were already enjoying.  Besides the colorful and healthy fresh fruit, the dusted whole wheat pancakes, maple bacon, and egg scramble made a perfect blend of carbohydrates and protein for a busy day of visiting Tucson’s attractions.  Oh, and breakfast is served from 7:30am until 8:30am (or 9:00am weekends)!  See you there -

Tucson’s Showers = B & B Flowers

Recent Tucson showers brought out flowers in Jeremiah Inn’s backyard garden.  The bright purple blooms attract honeybees and hummingbirds to an already active landscape.  Fall weather appears to be settling in with temperatures coming into the low 80′s.  Bed and Breakfast guests can still enjoy patio dining with spectacular views.  It’s a great time to be in Tucson!

Jeremiah Inn’s Great Granola Recipe

bfastP1010587 Guests at Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast exclaim over the yogurt parfait served with a topping of fresh baked granola.  They often request the recipe and since I baked a fresh batch today, I thought I would share the recipe while the aroma is still lingering in the kitchen!

In a large mixing bowl, combine:  4 cups oats, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 3/4 cup wheat germ, 3/4 cup bran cereal, 1/2 cup chopped almonds, 1/4 cup coconut.  In a separate cup, combine: 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 cup cooking oil, and 1 tsp vanilla.  Warm this 30 secs. in microwave.  Mix together thoroughly and turn mixture onto a 10 X 15 jelly roll pan (with edges).  Bake at 350 for approx 40 mins, but open the oven periodically (perhaps three times) and stir the mixture gently to produce even browning.  After baking stir while cooling to avoid “clumping”.  Makes 8 to 10 cups.  When cool, store in covered airtight container.

Layer two or three flavors of yogurt in a small glass dish and top with the granola.  I like to blend plain yogurt with the flavors to reduce “sweetness” and lower calories in the dish.  You have a healthy and delicious start to your breakfast!

More Chiricahua….Nature Speaks…or Eats?

rockP1010582

At the end of the Echo Canyon Loop Trail, innkeepers, Bob and Beth Miner came upon this formation that appeared to us to be a hand-shaped rock, feeding a rock-shaped rock, to a face-shaped rock.  Maybe it was the heat???  When you visit Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast and take your day trip to Chiricahua National Monument, you’ll have fun naming formations, too.

What’s for Breakfast?

bfastP1010587

Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast offers more than a wonderful place to sleep, as the second half of the name suggests.  Guests awake to a deliciously prepared and artfully presented breakfast. This morning’s fare included hot beverages and juice along with yogurt parfait with homemade granola  (a favorite), a luscious arrangement of fresh fruit, warm blueberry muffins, and tortilla quiche with turkey, green chilis, onion, cheeses and red peppers.  You will be treated to a delicious and different breakfast each day of your stay. We look forward to preparing yours.

Chiricahua National Monument Visit

Jeremiah Inn’s innkeepers, Bob and Beth Miner, recently paid a return visit to a favorite Southern Arizona destination, Chiricahua National Monument.  Located about 115 miles east of Tucson, and taking 2 1/2 hours to reach, it is well worth the trip!  Within its borders are spectacular pinnacles of rhyolite, called hoodoos, set in a beautifully wooded landscape.  These photos were taken along the Echo Canyon Loop Trail, 3 1/2 miles in length.  The hike includes forested canyons, grottos of eroded rock formations, spectacular vistas, and encounters with numerous birds, chipmunks, and lizards.  We enjoyed our picnic lunch before setting out on the two hour hike.  Elevation changes from 6800′ to 6400′ (and back again, of course) but the trail is well maintained and on this afternoon, we met only one other couple.  Pronounced “cheer-ih-cow-uh”, this park offers numerous hiking opportunities of varying lengths and difficulty along with stunning scenery.  On your visit to Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast, you may want to consider Chiricahua National Monument for an exhilirating day trip.  The spa will be ready for you on your return!

Here Kitty, Kitty, ……Bobcat!

bobcat100_4668Most of our guests call ahead to reserve at Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast, but some just show up.  All are welcome and last week this healthy fellow jumped the back wall into the pool area.  He appeared to be very relaxed and Bob Miner, Innkeeper, was able to take several great photos of the bobcat.  Ask to see the photos when you stay at Jeremiah Inn.  Bobcats are not aggressive to people, but if you are a backyard bird, you’ll want to keep a close eye on his movements.

Is Summer Sunsetting in Tucson?

Psunset1010322The summer monsoons give us spectacular Tucson sunsets as well as refreshing rains for the thirsty desert.  Picture yourself poolside at the Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast, reflecting on your day of hiking, biking, golfing, swimming, reading, sightseeing and more!  At this time of evening, the doves and quail are winging back to the nest, and the stillness is serene.  We look forward to seeing you at Jeremiah Inn before too many more sunsets have passed.

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring – Hooray

Tucson is situated in the Sonora Desert and welcomes an average of 12 inches of rain annually.   Periodically, a condition known as El Nino, evidences itself by sending warmer currents of ocean water in such a way as to disrupt the usual summer monsoon activity that brings Tucson almost half of its annual rainfall in about two months.  This monsoon year has been a dry one, but tonight we are enjoying the refreshment of rain.  Jeremiah Inn’s backyard brims with the sweet smell of showers and there is a freshness to the night.  The moon is almost full and brightens the reflective puddles.  When Innkeepers Bob and Beth lived in Seattle, WA (prior to August 1994), rain was somewhat “ho-hum”.  Since moving to the desert,  these bed and breakfast folk have learned to relish the rain.  It will be fun going to sleep with the sound of rain pattering against the windows.

It’s a Bloomin’ Desert

The desert has it’s beauty year round and August is no exception.  The robust barrel cactus that dot the Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast property are blooming in shades of yellow, orange and red.  The blooms will eventually show themselves in yellow fruits, but for now we are enjoying the bright spots of color gracing these hearty cactus.  Enjoy a few photos.  barrelcactusredbarrel
