Last summer the Monument Fire devoured more than 30,000 acres, including parts of Coronado National Monument, and canyons to the north of it. A visit to the area on August 9, 2012, just eleven months after the fire, revealed green hillsides and wildflowers in abundance. Plenty of evidence of the fire remains, but beauty abounds as well. You may enjoy hiking in the area again, and the neighborhood restaurant, Ricardo’s, has risen from its ashes, opening last week to the welcome of its neighbors.
